Firsts in my life
Anu chose the topic for today before she slipped off into the fog of business. I wonder how she would have written on the subject:
Firsts in my life
My post is very early today.
For the first and last time I can post my LBC entry at 11:11 on 11/11/11.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.
Tomorrow it will be yesterday
no use to me, but to look back on.
Who knows, I may not get that chance…
Today may even be my last, so….
I better go and make the most of it!
But first; I will Remember them!
L8rs Folks!

The Loose Blogging Consortium active members at the moment are: Conrad, Delirious, Maria/Gaelikaa, Magpie 11, Maria SilverFox, Padmum, Paul, Ramana, Rohit, WillKnott, & Little old me. We try to go live with our topics on Fridays, but life sometimes interferes and prevents posting until later in the weekend. That way you have an extra excuse to relax with coffee and enjoy the offerings.

11/11/11/11/11 should have struck me! If I could have, I would have kicked myself for not having thought of it for my post! It would have been a first since my surgery!

Remembering them! How lucky we are to be able to do so. It makes me think of all those who deal with Alzheimers and find all the sweet memories fading. So let’s keep making and banking our good times and pray they will be with us for all our days.

“In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.”

Ramana - Don’t you even think about trying!
Nancy - A timely reminder!

That’s right Grannymar–you are a ten!!!! You add up all those 1s and see what you get.

There seems to be a lot of controversy about poppies this year - people being forced to wear them, people being banned from wearing them, people who wear them without really knowing why etc. Perhaps we should just forget the poppies and reflect on the horror and carnage of war and how we could bring it all to an end.

Maria SF - I found you round the back!
How right you are. Alzheimers just like war, scars not alone the victims, but also their loved ones.
Red Top - Thank you my friend.
Nick - It was for that very reason I chose my coffee cup. We must never forget, but strive to end all war.

Love the subtlety of your coffee cup. I didn’t notice it at first - but then got it. Good one - especially in the light of Nick’s comments.
I don’t agree with Nancy though - or at least I suspect I don’t. I don’t like that poem. Too much about wading deeper into blood to redeem the blood already shed - which is arguably the opposite of what Poppy Day is all about - though only arguably, because to some it seems to be more of a patriotic, support our troops in the next war sort of thing.
More on not liking that poem and why here http://blackwatertown.wordpress.com/2009/11/14/deadly-verses/
I’d prefer white ones. But then again, I should admit to selling the red ones in our villain at this time of year. Inconsistent? Maybe. I suppose better to act with good intentions rather than endlessly quibble - or should I say, as well as endlessly quibbling.

Remembering with a full heart those who have served…:my Dad, my Brother, my Daughter…and are serving…:my medic Grandson deployed in Afghanistan. Peace and freedom are not free.

Blackwatertown: I totally second your thoughts. And I would urge any of Grannymar’s readers to visit your link (2009). Impassioned, so very well argued.
To give Nancy the benefit of the doubt since I am sure she does not wish to encourage further blood shed: People often get carried away by the rhythm or a poem, its opening lines - not necessarily always taking in its content, its full meaning.
Grannymar, interesting, don’t you think, how such a subtle photograph like yours can stimulate such strong responses. As to posting at 11 on 11/11/11 - I quite agree with Ramana. That was inspired. And Red Top who has ability to make me laugh should be given the title of Honorary Professor at Cambridge.

BWT - I have ‘remembered’ in more traditional ways in previous years, but felt it was time to change the emphasis this year (for me). I thankfully, never had to go to war, but my husband was a Burma Veteran from WW11 and his father saw action in France during WW1.
The link and the comments to your post were well worth a read and gave plenty to think about. The line I have take away are:
‘Old soldiers never die. . .’
. . .Only young ones. How true!
Brighid - As I said to Nick: We must never forget, but strive to end all war.

Ursula - When you know Nancy as long as I do (40 years), you might learn of the road she has travelled for over 80 years. A more genuine, loving and caring friend it would be difficult to find!
My remembering with my coffee on Friday covered a wide field. Those who didn’t return from war, those who did with scars of mind and body, loved ones who are no longer with us in body or mind, and finally, family and friends who are far away from me.

Rohit - When I discovered the date, I decided to take the opportunity of posting early.
Baino - I’ll have to put my thinking cap on.!
