Magpie - I don't mind what i am called, so long as it is not early in the morning!

WWW - Alas I am neither tiny nor delicate like your mother. I stand 5'7" and after years of the scales sitting bang on 8 stone, middle age spread has tipped it to 9st 4ozs.

GM:
I'm 5'8"and a Size 16. I imagine you as rather tiny and delicate - like my mother was 4'11-1/2" (that 1/2 was totally important to her!) and about 7 stone.
Surprise me, LOL

Nooo....It's Mothers' Day!

And that includes some women who are not ladies..... but not all women or all ladies....I think I have got that right.....

Years ago a woman was heard complaining outside the public lavs in Sidmouth. It went something like this, " Why is it that the men's lavatory is labelled Gentlemen and ours is labelled Women? Ours should be labelled Ladies."
A voice near me in the crowd said in a very loud voice, "My definition of a lady is a woman who doesn't mind being called a woman."

Nancy - The old Brown Thomas store in Grafton Street, Dublin sounds very like the place you mention. You walked in off the street onto the plushest carpet and exquisite perfume scents filled the air. As a young lady we would try a different perfume on each visit. Oh the fun!

Nick - You might have something there! ;)

WWW - ..... and what do you do with your cast-offs? Are you my size?

Magpie - This is Ladies rest day!

I fail on every level, GM, I'm afraid, all my clothes are basically passed down from a wealthy patron or picked up haphazardly in various thrift shops, I am SO not a shopper and whilst appalled at what my wealthy patron (I'm her accountant!) pays for designer clothes in a year, I gleefully scavenge her rejects and cast-offs.
XO
WWW
PS I could qualify for a huge mortgage based on some of my wardrobe?

Or perhaps you should visit Edward James before you go to that important job interview or apply for that enormous mortgage?

Grannymar,

I think you have to get a job at Grafton's, pay off your mortgage, THEN you can visit Edward James....

Years ago there was a very ritzy department store in Philadelphia where all the Salesladies weighed 80 pounds, wore long black dresses and had their eyeglasses hanging around their neck on a pearl chain. They were VERY intimidating to a poor young girl like myself.

So, if I ever wanted to shop there (which was seldom) I had to go to a less expensive store and buy an outfit to wear to the ritzy store; and still I never made the grade..

You may think I am joking but it's TRUE!

I recall hearing that Anita Roddick's first 'Body Shop' was situated between two undertakers. They took her to court to get her to change the name but obviously she won. It must have caused manys a laugh. :)
