A Facelift

We had that chat.

You know the one about the effects of passing time…..

Who else but my Elly?  You know how it goes….

“Mum, I think you need updating!”

There are days when I am glad that I had only one daughter.  What must it be like to have an army of young ladies surrounding you like a gaggle of geese pointing out all those little faults.  Too fat, too thin, well the first never applied to me so that is something I suppose. :D   Then there is the “Take that off it makes you look….. look… look OLD!” :(

So I had a long think about this face lift.  People wonder why I seldom sleep!  So what options are open to me: a do-it-myself jobbie or let the professionals run riot all over the shop?

What exactly would I like them to do?

  • A little Resurfacing to smooth the faded and tired layers.  A chemical peel or laser resurfacing.
  • Pulsed light therapy to stimulate the middle layer.
  • Creams & pastels to enhance and soften.
  • Tissue augmentation to plump out deep wrinkles with injections of collagen or other types of filler.
  • Botulinum toxin injections?

Are you joking?  I certainly do not want to last two.  I want a clean healthy make-over.

Facelift surgery is common in springtime.  However, in order to make an informed decision and give my consent, I need to be aware of the possible side-effects and the risk of complications.

  • Staying under wraps while the work is executed.
  • Being out of reach or contact for a couple of days.
  • Acceptance of the new look

Right, I think I need to go over those photographs again.

WARNING

The facelift I am talking about is for my blog and not me.  It will not happen today and I will give you plenty of warning before we have a break in transmission.

If it’s not broke, don’t fix it, I say. But I’ll watch this space with interest. Maybe you should just pluck out a few things, shave a few other things and wax the really large unwanted areas?

Nick, I am still chewing on the pencil and not ready for the scissors yet.

Forgive me (it’s 4AM here) but I like the clean & tidy of your site. I’ve given up on a large number of the blogs I used to read as I don’t care for all the long lists, ads, music, sidebars, ads, awards, ads.

I like the Kiss Principle as applied to your Blog.

Now about that light therapy…apparently back in the 20’s it was found that light could be used to stimulate the immune system to combat disease (it may actually have been further back than that). There were different ways of administering this therapy. Research was stopped with the development of Penicillin. However work was carried on in the Soviet Union. AS recently as the early 90s I heard that there was one hospital at least that was using blood irradiation (IIRC Infra red) to try and tackle cancers.
It was all something to do with the stimulation of white blood cells.

As they say…Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Grannymar, I wouldn’t change a thing– you are perfect.

Boo hoo! Why would you want to do it? It is so comfortable!!

Brighid - There will be no flashing lights or adverts. I think I will have one narrow sidebar that won’t interfere with the main message.
I too, have dropped blogs where it is necessary to plough through rubbish to find the actual post. The blog is after all about the things we write.

Magpie - A Kiss Principle! I never knew I had one. I was making the most of the sunlight this morning. It was wonderful!

    Maynard - Eyetest! ;)

Ramana - My bed is comfortable, but I still change the sheets!

Please don’t make yourself unrecognizable, dear GM, you’ve earned all the wrinkles. We celebrate them!

WWW - I think I found the basis of what I want, now to fine tune the details. Go for the red hair. Hell, we are only this way once!

Magpie - Simplicity is what I want and need.

Haha I wondered what had come over you for a moment. Yeh I feel like a ‘facelift’ too! I see so many pretty backgrounds on the blogosphere but having just customised the template to fit larger photos I can’t be bovvered redesigning it in a big way. Good luck and I’m sure whatever you come up with it’ll be beautiful.

I’m having enough trouble trying to fix the things that disappear or are placed wrong on my blog. I probably need a facelift, too, but I don’t have the patience or time to start over.

Baino - I am still at the ‘making a list and checking it twice’ stage!

Darlene - You are doing fine and working on the new Mac into the bargain. Bravo.

Your remarks about your interaction with Elly made me laugh. When I got a webcam recently, Mel was trying to put make up on me before I faced the camera. “It makes you look like a ghost, Mum!” she was saying.

The truth is that I’m a lot paler than most of the people around here. My children included!

Gaelikaa, Indians call all caucasians as palefaces! At least they used to when I used to see Westerns!

  16. Grannymar said,

Gaelikaa - Elly and I banter like that all the time….. even when we go shopping! I sometimes wonder what other customers or sales assistants are thinking.

Ramana - Would they be the Red and not the original Indians that you mean?

You had me going there, right up to the end! But I did learn something. I never knew there were so many different procedures to choose from. Unless I begin to lose my toothbrush in my cheek wrinkles, or my eyelids droop down to touch my nose, I don’t anticipate any major fixing up on my face. Blogs, on the other hand, like a room makeover can be a great adrenalin booster for a prolific blogger like yourself. I’ll be watching and waiting to see what’s next!

My face will stay as nature intended. When I walk round with a big grin on my face, folk are busy wondering what I was up too and forget about the lines!

There’s an updated version of your current theme available, we may just stick with that, but it gives you more options and you could have 2 sidebars and put your blogroll on one side since it’s so long. George should be talking to you soon about this.

  21. Grannymar said,

    February 10, 2010 at 8:05 pm

Elly, I don’t want two side bars. I have a fair idea at this stage what I want and a definite idea of what I don’t want!

Oooh Grannymar - just go mad!! There are so many things and if someone else is doing it for you - why not!!!!!?

About your old clothes making you look OLD. I offered my huge (old) wardrobe to my Swedish granddaughters. They tried not to laugh. After they left I found pics on the computer of them doing silly poses, wearing my old clothes.

  24. Grannymar said,

Kate - I’ll do the picking and let the troops do the work! ;)

BHB - Sometimes they are not even old clothes, maybe just the line or length of an outfit. I usually agree with Elly as she can see me from all angles.

  25. bikehikebabe said,

Yes, the clothes now are fitted & not so long. I just got (ordered) an X-tra Small that fits like a glove. I brought out of closet, an X-tra Small that I got when clothes were baggy. I’d call it a large.

  26. Grannymar said,

    February 12, 2010 at 7:56 am

BHB - Even today the sizes are not all standard. Each make or brand name seems to have their own sizing system. Also the style of an outfit might mean moving up or down a size.
