It was cold
Christmas dawned one cold and frosty morning!
That looks like Elly’s handiwork!
The view behind the car
Silent beauty of the fruit garden
No snow. we had -11°C frost!
Looking down the Avenue from the house, watching for the children to arrive.

Isn’t it kind of miraculous how those fruit trees–and others–can survive this kind of winter treatment, and still come back next year to produce fruit? Makes me feel like a shiver just looking at it as the heater vent blows merrily from the wall near where my feet are stationed.

We had snow just before Christmas but the temp didn’t drop that low!

Even frost looks so christmassy and wintery. Beautiful pics and a lovely looking street. My nectarines got a bit of frost bite when my stupid brother turned the bar fridge up to max to chill his beer! Now I’ll have to stew them instead of eating them fresh. I live in a citrus growing area and they say that a good frost helps sweeten the oranges. Hope you had a wonderful day Grannymar.

Takes me back to my 11+Exam day:

There is a raw beauty in a hoar frost…
I didn’t know about a frost sweetening oranges but certainly parsnips and beet are sweeter after frosting and so are Brussels Sprouts so it doesn’t surprise me. I suspect that the oranges make more sugar so that they don’t freeze all the way through. Like anti freeze. Just an idea.

Alice - nature is indeed wonderful.
Chrisb - we had snow at home that partly thawed and then froze solid.
Baino - that is the driveway the road is way out of sight from the house.
Magpie - I remember reading that post and feeling the frost in my bones!

As a matter of fact Grannymar, Mel and I are freezing our socks off at the moment. It’s that awful dry cold I was telling you about in a previous LBC post, in case you might recall. No frost and snow, but dry, and draughty. It might be better down where Ashok, Anu and Ramanabhai are because they are closer to the Arabian sea.
The houses here are built for warm weather which doesn’t help.
Yours shiveringly,
gaelikaa……

Gaelikaa - Poor you and Mel suffering the cold. I arrived home in the last hour and the garden is still hidden under a layer of snow.

Beautiful pics of the landscape. It was frozen here for most of the week, a little freeze does help alot of the fruits & veggies in my garden.

Brighid - The frost might be good for the veg… it is not good for my bones!
