Books & memes

I have been tagged by Darlene of Darlene’s Hodgepodge to do a Meme.  Darlene began blogging at the very young age of 82!

YES! I did say 82.

Since then despite a fall and hip surgery she has returned to living alone and blogging. A very wise and humorous lady, I could learn plenty just sitting at Darlene’s feet.

The rules are to pick the book nearest to you, turn to page 161 and copy the fifth sentence. I know I have done this sort of thing before, but I do manage to read and complete at least one book a year! You don’t believe me?

Well here are just a few:

Seriously now the book to hand is ‘From here, you can’t see Paris’ by Michael Sanders

So to page 161, sentence five

Yes, I am of the generation when agriculture passes from the Middle Ages to what we see now.’

I am to tag five more people to play this game so the five I have chosen are:

They make me struggle and suffer while chewing my pen each week, so now it is my turn to torment them!

Have fun.

82 is but a spring chicken in the blogosphere - have you come across the wonderful Ivy Bean, social network extraordinaire who celebrated her 104th birthday last week? :-)

    Welcome countrywife,

Ivy Bean sounds amazing. Does she have a blog? If so I would like to read it. Alas, I dislike facebook and seldom visit. I am a great believer in the internet being made available to our seniors. It brings the world in when they are unable to get outside.

    Belated Happy Birthday to Ivy!

Paddington gets tanked? Does that mean what I think it means? Great meme. That sentence was intriguing….

Gee, GM, we have the exact same taste in books! I am also reading ” Paddington Gets Tanked”. I like it a lot but feel the plot is a bit thin and could use some “Punching up”.

About” The Boy Who Lost His Bellybutton”. Did you cry, too, when his navel fell off? I know I am a sentimental old fool but I really did get all choked up when that happened.

Dr. Seuss ,in my opinion, should stick to “Horton Hears a Who” and” Scrambled Eggs Super by Peter T. Hooper” and stay away from SEX. “The Grinch Who Stole My Virginity” is simply NOT appropriate for young children.

I haven’t had the chance to read ” Why is Mommy Moaning” yet. I am on the waiting list for it at our local library but the list is very long and I may not be able to get back to you with my review for a few weeks. I tried to bribe the librarian to move my name to the top of the list but she refused, saying that the book is very popular and no patrons will be favored over others. “Just wait your turn”,I was told….

oh I sure hope Mommy’s having a good time and not shredding her hair at the thought of two toddlers up and at her at 6.00 a.m.

I picked up the nearest book that I’m reading–”Uncle John’s Slightly Irregular Bathroom Reader”– page 161 –subject-”Nudes and Prudes”–NUDE…In january 2004, Strphen Gough,44, known as the “Naked Rambler,” accomplished his goal of walking the length of the United Kingdom wearing only socks, walking boots, and a hat……

You will have to buy the book or come to my library to complete the rest of the story.

Thanks for not tagging me and I’m still chuckling on your choice of books. Wonder if I can order them on Amazon?

    WWW - I know that 6am feeling! :(

Maynard - I think I will wait until I visit your library.

Kirk M Not sure about Amazon, mine came special delivery! ;)

Thanks for playing the meme game, Grannymar, and for the very kind words. I doubt that you could learn much from me, but I am sure learning a lot from you.

Just to keep the record straight, I was 83 when I started blogging and have had a birthday since then. Nice of you to lop a year off of my old age, though. ;-)

Darlene is amazing isn’t she and I love your choice of reading. If they were available here, I’d be tempted to read more.

Darlene - I enjoyed this one! I apologise for the error I made in your age. That makes you even more wonderful!

Baino - She is indeed. If you are nice to Nancy she might send on the last one on the list, when she is finished with it! ;)

” A very important property of scale-free networks is their resilience to the deletion of nodes.”

This is from my daughter-in-law’s book- Complexity. There’s no sentence that is comprehensible. I said this to my husband. He said “it’s comprehensible”.

Thanks for including me in this meme.

Here you go: Do you see children “in synch” and “in sympathy” and resonating with the world around them?

I should have said that Complexity, her latest book, is by Melanie Mitchell, in case you want to order it or read about her.
