All Alone
Carrickfergus at Lunchtime Tuesday 12th May 2009
I enjoyed a walk in the sunshine before the trolly pushing task to refill my cupboards. It is most unusual to have the place to myself, no traffic on the road or walking along the promenade.
If you look closely there is a lady standing at a bus stop below the clock tower and a gentleman in uniform in the carpark on the left.

Goodness, why is it so quiet? Was there a swine flu alert you didn’t hear about? Not sneezing today, are you??

Nick,
The car park at the castle was pretty full, normally there are dog walkers, people with children, skateboarders and cyclists to negotiate along the prom. On Tuesday I saw nobody on the way out or back.
Mind you the supermarket was also quiet-ish with lots of gaps on the shelves.
No coughs, splutters or sneezes!

Don’t be so modest Grannymar. The whole lot of them decided to let you have free access to the entire promenade. I enlarged the photo and still could not find the lady and the unformed person. My eye sight is not what it used to be.
Lovely photograph though. Absolutely clear even enlarged.

How empty it is!
Woman at bus stop…(is it a bus stop?)…is in the mid ground and the man is wearing a luminous jacket…yellow!

@Ramana - Perhaps word was out and they were all in hiding from me!
@Magpie - The signs for bus stops are regularly attached to the poles for street lights. Your sight is good you found the people.

I found it quite an eeries shot, GM, a heavy industrial kind of pall over the beauty of the sea as offset by the concrete and steel. I like the endless promenade devoid of people but there is something rather unsettling about it.
Nicely done.

What a beautiful promenade for a morning walk. I love the sea and to live near it must be wonderful.
I enlarged it and found the woman, but was not too sure about the man. I thought the color of the luminous jacket was lime green. I need new glasses.

@WWW - The water is Belfast Lough that divides Co. Antrim from Co. Down. The 200 metre high chimney in the distance is at Kilroot, a dual coal/oil fire Power Station. The prom was upgraded last year and I am hoping the colourful flower beds will soon be restored.
@Darlene - We are very fortunate in Ireland, that of the 32 counties on the island only 12 are land-locked. You did well the luminous jacket is a yellowish green.

Er Not so good…the thing I thought was a woman appears to be a traffic cone or two…but I did find her in the end!

Nice promenade, you’re lucky to have such a walk so close to home, I have to travel into the city for a decent watery walk. I tend to walk early in the morning anyway so there’s very few people about other than the other dog walkers and joggers, it’s strangely peaceful!

@Magpie - She was on the other side of the road.
@Baino - Alas Carrickfergus is not within walking distance but it does mean I can combine a walk , perhaps lunch and the shopping to one journey.

My house is on the edge of an empty canyon. Trees & wildlife but no pavement or people. It’s rare that I see anyone. I take off my shirt so that I get my vitamin D required from the sun–1/2 hour. This is in the mountains of New Mexico, USA.

bikehikebabe,
How wonderful to wake to only the sounds of nature each day. I remember waking to that particular silence years ago, alas no more.
Enjoy!
