Handy Hints for Wednesday ~ 26

Happy Birthday Ellybabes!

Now down to business…

To polish silverware sprinkle dry baking soda on a damp cloth rub, rinse, dry and enjoy.

Balm for broken blisters… To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine mouth wash, a powerful antiseptic.

Chewing Gum in your child’s hair - A small dab of peanut butter rubbed into hair and the gum comes right out.

Erase white spots on mahogany by spreading a thick coat of Vaseline over the spots. Let it stand for 48 hours before wiping clean.

After a long day on the beach, you may develop black beach tar on your feet. Not to worry. Just rub them with some toothpaste and take dip in the sea to rinse!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY Elly!

    Grannymar

If I come back at coffee time, will there be birthday cake all round?

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLY!!!!!

Now, about your helpful hints, GM. I have another to add. Hope it helps your readers to know this.

Whenever I get toothpaste on my feet I simply rub them with black beach tar and take a quick dip in the sea. Works every time!!!

Hello, Steph! Happy to see you. We always miss you when you are not around….

To fix a limp, rub the bad leg with skunk or wildcat grease!

Not far enough, Grannymar! I HATE sand.

I remember when I was a kid many years ago we only had WOOL bathing suits and we would go to the beach on a really HOT day and wiggle and squirm as that suit drove us mad with itching. That’s when it was DRY.

That wasn’t the worst though, GM. The WORST was when it was time for the 2 hour drive home and your bathing suit was wet and full of SAND! Every oriface of your body had sand in it and it scratched and felt like ground up glass in some of your more delicate areas.

    Oh, don’t remind me!

    Hiya! NANCY

    *** Waves frantically ***

Look out! I’m sure Grannymar will have a remedy for your itching and scratching. Probably vinegar

Oh my gawd! Woollen bathing trunks…and when they got wet they stretched!

Oh Happy Birthday Ellie! Don’t spill the candle grease from the birthday cake or GM will come across with some thing like vinegar!
    Have a good day!

Tar from n the beach, tar from the road, bletch from a bicycle chain, creosote from the shed (two little girls lived next door and they tidied daddy’s shed and spilled the creosote! Mum was frantic but I knew what to do)…smear liberally with butter or margarine and wash off with good old Fairy soap. If no fairy soap then you’ll have to make do with Wright’s Coal Tar or any other soap or even washing up liquid! In the absence of butter or marge then lard will do!

@Judy - I used that method the other day on a 100 year old dressing table set. The hairbrush and hand mirror look great now.

@Gail - Hello & welcome. I have never come across skunks or wildcats to harness their grease, so we will have to keep limping along!

@Nancy - Shhh! Don’t remind Elly or she will tell the world about the ’sctatchy’ dress she wore one winter. It was a wollen fabric and unlined….. Now I wonder if I have a picture somewhere?

@Steph - it is good to have you out to play again.

@Magpie - Thanks for that tip, your commission is in the post!

Thanks for the chewing gum tip - our last encounter resulted in a costly trip to the hairdresser and a really bad hair month with a dodgy do! Will know what to do next time.

Annb, You are welcome. I remember the problem of trying to remove gum from Elly’s very fine hair.

Just realised (having spilled the oil from a new jar of hazelnut butter all over the table cloth) Peanut Butter might work with tar! Or olive oil…must try to get some tar on my feet sometime ;-)

Magpie, are you really trying to tell me that I need to be well oiled?

I found the perfect way to remove gum from my kids hair. I just cut it out, then took them to the hair dresser to even things up. I’m basically too lazy to fool with peanut butter.

Lucky for me: I don’t need the other hints - no silver (gave it all to my daughter), no beach (I live in the desert), no mahogany and now no children. I might use the blister remedy, though. ;-)

Well lardy me, That Magpie seems to have a bit of a tar fetish.

Thanks for the tips, they are always tried (now where did that darn kid with the good silver fork, blistered finger, bubblegum hairball, mahogany purse, & tar foot get to) and true.

Listerine is great for cankers in the mouth too!

And in some cases the UV protection cream - for sun protection - is really good for psoriasis.

I’ll use the silver polish banking soda, the darn silver clean stuff costs me a fortune!

@Darlene - Life sounds good with you.

@Brighid - You leave Magpie’s fetishes out of it now!

@WWW - White Vinegar is even better for the mouth problems.
