Friends
I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar. ~ Anon

A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil; but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls and small, silly presents every so often - just to save it from drying out completely. ~ Pam Brown

a friend
hears the song
in my heart
and sings it to me

This is how I feel about you, Grannymar:
Oh, the comfort, the inexpressable comfort of feeling safe with a person,
Having neither to weigh thoughts,
Nor measure words- but pouring them
All right out-just as they are-
Chaff and grain together-
Certain that a faithful hand will
Take and sift them-
Keep what is worth keeping-
And with a breath of kindness
Blow the rest away.

An acquaintance is one who offers to help; a friend is one who just comes over unasked and starts helping. I’ll bet your are that kind of friend, Grannymar.

This is one of my faves, GM, and Irish to boot:

My Grannie used to observe, ” I have many acquaintances but my friends I can count on the fingers of one hand.”
Years after her death I found out that it was said by a Victorian Prime Minister on his death-bed. Which one I can’t remember.
