Handy Hints for Wednesday ~ 20

This week I start with a request.  Lorna asked how to remove eggshell paint.

The fresher the paint the easier it is to remove, not having time to set.

For water based paint I suggest water to remove it.
If it is an oil based paint, then petrol.  My husband used nothing else in all the years I knew him.  He even used it to clean the brushes!  We had a petrol mower so there was always some in the can, winter and summer.  Naturally use it in a well ventilated area.  The fumes evaporate quickly and then launder the garment in the normal way.

For a sweeter flavour from young garlic plant it alongside crushed cloves and a few olive stones.

I was talking to a member of staff from the underwear department of our local Marks & Spencers store.  She told me they always have a packet of baby wipes on hand to remove deodorant stains and make-up from clothing that has been tried on!  Proof if we ever needed it that the wipes work.

A hanging basket filled with a variety of culinary herbs, e.g. parsley, chives, golden oregano, variegated mints & sage hanging outside the kitchen door is decorative, unusual and very useful.

You don’t want to have a shower when you water a hanging basket, use ice cubes and they will moisten the soil as they melt.

Ice cubes are a good way to water a flower arrangement, too, especially if you have it sitting on a surface that water would damage.

I’m going to buy baby wipes today!! Mr. kenju always has spots.

Ice cubes - brilliant, I’d never have thought of that. I love the smell of petrol by the way ;-)

I had forgotten about the ice cubes, thanks for reminding me. Have always kept a pack of baby wipes in the suv to keep the grandkids & me from the messies. But then I’ve always had a kit box in the suv with emergency diapers as well. Fun to see the look on a young mom’s face when I ask what size diaper she needs, presto out it comes…

@Conor - Keep away from naked flames! ;)

@Steph - Vinegar man needed a day off!

@WWW - I always found ice cubes a great distraction to the pain of a fall or graze when Elly was little. One cube in her mouth (her idea) and one to put on the bump!

@ Brighid - I had an emergency kit in my office years ago until I saw someone help themselves to my spare pair of tights and another use my box of tissues to mop up a spill instead of going to the kitchen for a cloth. Neither had asked permission.

    Dear Mrs. Grannymar,

I have taken the liberty of asking Nancy to ask you if you are angry about something or if my service to you has been faulty in any way.

Because you did not order any vinegar this week I am left with an oversupply and do not know what to do with it.

I read your household hints and not ONCE did you mention or recommend the use of vinegar.

Since I usually fill your vinegar tank with 500 gallons a week I am at a loss as to what to do with my excess supply.

Perhaps your readers will have an idea what I should do with it.

Hey Vinegar Man! Go find another lady to pester!

OOOOH! Sooory…let my feelings run away with me.

Might I suggest that he goes and finds Bicarb Girl and gets fizzing?

    Dear Mr Vinegar Man
    c/o Nancy
    USA

I am not angry. Vinegar use was light this week as I had it in a spray bottle for demonstrating how to train pets on Monday. I have no pets so there was no need to refill my tank.

Please take care, magpies are dangerous when they are cross!

Say Hi to Nancy, I hope all that sunshine in Florida didn’t go to her head!

    Hi Magpie,

How is my Knight in shining Armour tonight?

I think you need to dab vinegar on your temples to cool you down….. I wonder if it will lower your blood pressure?

    Bp down at the moment!
Talking of cross magpies…Saw two scrapping like mad the other day whilst the ladies just sat by and watched and made the occasional comment! One flew off with two ladies close behind! Typical!

?……The women could have at least mad sure the loser was okay before chasing after the hunky one! ;-)

By the way…I don’t use vinegar to shine my armour! Gold doesn’t tarnish….

If I stay in this 3rd floor apt another year I am *crosses heart* going to have a hanging basket or window box.

I love fresh herbs (not big on plants/flowers) and would love ot have them growing in my windows.

    Thanks for the hints.

    Elf,
