Revving up the R’s with 7 Things
Judy at Imagine had a meme the other day and she invited her followers commenter’s to try it.
How you do it: Either ask me for a letter, or choose one for yourself
With 26 letters in the alphabet I would never be happy, so I chose to ask and be restricted to just one letter. Judy selected the letter R.
In the meantime I was tagged by Laura Czajkowski who in turn was tagged by Jamie Hemmett, to:
Share 7 Things Not Previously Known about me!
Being lazy I combined the two and came up with 7 things beginning with the letter R
Radio – By choice I have no television but radio is my constant companion 24/7. Living alone it adds sound to my world and I learn something new every day. If you asked, the last time I slept right through the night, it was pre December 1991! I consider three consecutive hours a good nights sleep nowadays. BBC World Service is my companion through the starlight hours. I leave it turned low in the hope it lulls me to sleep, but some of the programmes are better than those by day.
Refreshment – We all need refreshment and for me there is nothing I like more than a good meal and a bottle of nice wine shared with real friends.
Reservation – At this point I have a reservation made for a flight to Cork for the Irish Blog Awards. If you see me at the airport please do not fret – I have arranged for a wheelchair. It is a condition imposed by my GP because standing still or in queues causes me to become dizzy and fall. On my own I deal with it, but people round me seem to fuss and this causes me extra unnecessary stress. Anyway my son-in-Law has waited for a long time to push me around.

Ribbon – As a young girl I was never without a ribbon in my hair. I seemed to have one for every day and to match every dress.
Richard – was my favourite name for a boy. Had fate given me a son instead of Elly he would have been called Richard John. Mind you that might have caused a problem, since Jack decided very early on that our baby would be a girl! If it was a boy he would have to go back from whence he came. No amount of talking would make Jack change his mind, so thanks Elly for being a girl!
Rustle – Clothes don’t rustle anymore. Modern day clothing may be very comfortable but being sometimes shapeless and unstructured they lack that unique feeling. There was something special about dressing up to attend a dance in silk or taffeta garments that rustled in motion. With my love of sewing and small frame I made a new dress or three for each season.
Requiem – When my time comes – and I hope it is not soon, I wish to be disposed of simply and quickly wherever I may fall. No need to drag my mortal remains all over the country. Then when I am out of the way, remember me with laughter & song and drink a toast to my memory!

Just lovely.
Your photo is so sweet. In fact you look a bit like my mother as a child, same facial structure.
I love it when someone takes these things and makes them interesting and fresh.
Thanks be that Elly didn’t have to go back!

I’ve been so impressed with the letter memes that I’ve assigned and yours is no exception. Good job! Ribbons and rustle both spoke to me. I wore braids as a child, and my mom always tied bows onto the braids. My favorite dress at the age of 14 was a navy and white, small checkered taffeta that my grandmom bought for me. It had a stand-up collar, a fitted waist and a big, full skirt that rustled loudly when I moved. I loved it! Thanks for making me remember.

@Sharon - I was nine when that photo was taken. It was one of the discarded proofs but I always like it.
@Judy - I enjoyed this challenge and I am pleased it evoked memories for you.

I love your photo at the age of nine. You have beautiful eyes and you look so sweet. I usually had hair ribbons also, but none as large as yours.
Your R’s are Right on and Really pertinent and I Really enjoyed Reading them.

Darlene,
I wore a Large Bow on my hair every day. No matter the colour they all sat just like the one above. I am pleased you liked the Meme.

Well done and very interesting. I must admit I was dubious about doing it, but you do learn some very interesting things

Grannymar
Glad to see you all revved up and working again.
I wasn’t able to receive my daily dose of ‘Grannymar’ yesterday
I love the pic! It would make a great front cover for a book full of your memories

Okay! You asked for it:
Radio……brought up listening to BBC Home Service and Light Programme and from these I gained my general knowledge and sense of humour. Radio Four is my constant companion now and was always there whilst the boys were growing up thus they did not need video toys etc. When Tristan went up to Cambridge he was astounded and saddened by his peers’ lack of knowledge of issues in the world and their lack of general knowledge.
Refreshment…..I’d agree with you about the meal, wine and friends but also add some good music part of the time. However the greatest refreshment I have ever had was water from a stream on Dartmoor on a really hot day.
Reservation…….. a huge mix of feelings here….anger at the thought of the peoples who have had to live on Reservations because of the greed of we Europeans…… my reservations on several matters of import…see Sunday’s comment….my own reservation when in a (new or not so new) social context…I am a bit shy!
Richard… well, my pleasure and pride at meeting the Richard I taught a few years ago, at the house of a friend and to discover that he has grown into the intelligent, wacky, amusing person I always saw and my colleagues could never believe in…..and to find that he is still in touch with the other intelligent, wacky and amusing person in the same class and to learn that she is getting it together at last!
Ribbon…..choosing the paper and ribbon to wrap a special present for a special person….the rule is never choose something that you yourself would not like to receive….shocking pink or “electric” colours are out!
Rustle…I noticed a heading in The Guardian Weekend Magazine yesterday, that said …Do the Rustle…It’s about fringing on dresses!…the dress in question costs £480 from Selfridges but it Rustles. Other than that….I do fancy rustling cattle…
Requiem…mm! My father used to say, “Throw me on the compost heap.”…well they can use me to teach people anatomy and ….he He I’m going to conduct my own “funeral” and tell everyone what I think of them…seriously…I’ll choose my own music and say just what i think about the people I know..and some I don’t. Then everyone can go off for an evening’s dancing and music with some of the great musicians I know…oh yes and If they do bury me or cremate me then the only flower I want is a dandelion!
Well GM you put me up to it…and everything I said is either true or a true wish!

@Laura - It was fun for me and my friends as you can see above.
@Steph - I think I am back on track today and apologies to anyone unable to visit over the past couple of days.
@Magpie - As I often say to Nancy — you should have a blog! Great stuff above.
Nancy will be with us as soon as she reaches her winter home in Florida, I expect that to be midweek.

If I see you in a wheelchair I shall snatch it right off you! (And place you in the lap of a toyboy instead)

K8,
The wheelchair is only for Airport use, mind you with the pulling and pushing of my hip today I could do with a chair right now!
