Handy Hints for Wednesday ~ 5

When you have to leave your car outside overnight in the winter, mix 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water and put it in a trigger spray bottle, use this solution to spray on the windows. This vinegar and water combination will keep windows ice and frost-free.

Keep a kilo bag of table salt in the cupboard for use in frosty weather. Sprinkle it ahead of you as you walk to the bin or garage door. An airtight food box of salt in the glove compartment of the car, for sprinkling on frosty ground before you step out might help to fervent you from slipping and falling.

Pinecones are a simple form of kindling to start a real fire. They heat up quickly and burn for a long time.

Candles are very popular in decorations at this time of year. To make them last longer, cover with a plastic bag and place in the freezer for 24 hours before lighting. Do not leave lighted candles unattended and trim the wick at regular intervals to prevent smoking.

You can use dental floss to hang up your Christmas decorations and ornaments on the Christmas tree.

You must spend a fortune on vinegar.

Seriously though, is the vinegar safe on the paintwork?

@Primal - I take it you mean the paintwork of the car. Jack washed his car everyday right through the year - he hated a dirty car - and he used washup liquid in the first bucket of water with a sponge to clean off the dirt. Then a clean bucket of water with vinegar in and a natural chamois to polish it off. The car always looked like it came out of the showroom. :D

@Steph - No onions this week…. but give me time ;)

To stop ants coming in the house when it’s hot outside, sprinkle bicarb soda around the bottom of the brickwork.

To stay cool on a 33 degree night, sleep in a damp sarong

To stop feet from burning on beach sand, wear rubber thongs!

To keep your computer from fizzing it’s fan . . turn it off!

I also wondered about the vinegar on the car’s paint? No problem?

    Judy,

There is absolutely no problem to the paintwork of the car from vinegar. People teased Jack about keeping the car in the living room it was so shiny. He only used polish on it about four times a year.
