Thoughts for Today

The following a 10 little snippets I have picked up on life’s journey I hope they give you something to think about today.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

What other people think of you is none of your business

All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

Wrinkles are the map of your soulful journey….
You’d be lost without them.

Life is short, make fun of it.

Live well, laugh often & love much.

Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there

A day without laughter is a day wasted

Not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck

Now share a favourite phrase or thought from your own collection.

Why Parents Have Gray Hair…

John passing by his son’s bedroom was astonished to see the bed nicely made up and everything neat and tidy.

Then he saw an envelope propped up prominently on the pillow.
It was addressed, “Dad”. With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands:

Dear Dad,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing this letter to you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with you and Mum.

I’ve been finding real passion with Elaine and she is so nice. I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercings, tattoos,
her tight motorcycle clothes and because she is so much older than I am.

Elaine says that we are going to be very happy. She owns a
caravan in the woods and has a stack of firewood, enough for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many children.

Elaine has opened my eyes to the fact that cannabis doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll be growing it and trading it with the other people in the commune for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.

In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Elaine can get better; she sure deserves it!

Don’t worry Dad, I’m 16 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I’m sure we’ll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren.

Your son,

Andy

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at Tommy’s house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life
than failing the GCSE examination. I love you!

Phone Tommy’s house when it is safe for me to come home!

Schmooze Woozee, that’s Me

Tuesday I was in shock, and you can blame that K8 once again! I worry about her because she gets more like her father every day. He fires hands things out ad lib and now she is at it.

“So what is she handing around now? A tray of drinkies, or a platter of Smoked Salmon”, I hear you ask?

Not at all, it is another Award. This time it is a Schmooze Award.

So why me? Well to put it in her words:

“Because you’re such a motherly spirit around here.. your posts are warm and familiar, and you always find time to comment, which ain’t easy!”

It’s the ‘motherly spirit’ that scares me. I have heard of High Spirits and Holy Spirits but motherly spirits are a new one. I wonder are they part of the tekki language with a total different meaning to our usual one. I must remember to ask my grand nieces.

So how would you like one of these on your Blog?  (Honours for cash easily arranged!)

Now I have to put my thinking cap on….

Right now, are you paying attention? Here we go…

Conortje: He amuses me daily and he is just the age to be my Toyboy!

Ellybabes: Since she pushed me into this entire blogging lark, I have to get my own back. Anyway if I didn’t include her she might have me in the Nursing Home before the weekend!

Gingerpixel: A lady of great talent and the ability to make me broody!

Nelly Moser: In the wilds of Co. Antrim she waxes lyrical about life, living and anything that catches her mood.

I leave all my Worldly Goods to….

Way down under where the Kangaroos live, Baino has written an excellent post.

GO READ IT AND TAKE NOTE

No matter what age you are, and if your only possession is a half chewed pencil, make sure it goes to the person you want to have it. Review the Will every ten years as circumstances can change. The SO might have exchanged you for a newer younger model, in which case you don’t want them to get all your treasures. You might have joined the world of Grandparenthood and want the tiny angels to have something to link them to their past.

Now having said that I am sure you intend sticking around for a long time yet, having a will DOES NOT bring death any closer. But it relieves extra stress for those you leave behind when the time comes.

So we have decided you are staying for the party. Make sure that all the precious items are in a very safe place. Mine are so safe I will never see them again! The B*st*rd Burglers got them a few years ago.

Now here is a little exercise for your lunch time break. List your possessions and see what it would cost if you were to go out and purchase them today.

Most of you out there prove daily to us that you use a camera, either digital or on the mobile phone. (There’s two items for the list so far.) Take pictures of the items on a clear background with a ruler as a guide to size. Make a note separately with the description and age of the item, add the receipt if you have it. You can store the info on your computer (third item).

Now I wonder how much my glass eye and wooden leg are worth……

Oh! and I forgot these:

A Man!

I got one in the post today!

I immediately informed Elly. She is my only daughter and we are very close. Well as close as the 126 miles stretch between me in the wee North and her in the busy South of this island of Ireland.

So back to the Man.

As Yet I am unable to describe him as I know only that he is an Englishman who wears green wellies. He arrived early in a very compact package.

Ok, ok, I admit it!

‘An Englishman a la Campagne’ is just another book from Bookmooch for Elly. Sending the books c/o Grannymar means that I get to read them as well.

Thanks Elly, this one and the one that came yesterday should keep me quiet while you are gadding about Europe on your ‘Funnymoon’ - no that is not a spelling mistake - I hope you and George have plenty of fun and laughter while you are away.

Now I am off to make the recognitionl tags for your cases.

How many was it?  50 for you and 1 for George! ;)

Cold Feet

I miss my Jack!

He had a wonderful warm heart. Not alone that, he radiated great heat. His whole body was like a mobile heating unit. It is no wonder Elly chose ‘I want to hold your Hand’ by the Beatles to be played and sung at her wedding. It is a picture imprinted in her brain, mammy and daddy holding hands or sitting close together on the couch.

I am the original Ice Maiden old woman. I have the coldest body in Christendom. Elly & George were laughing at me over the weekend when they were up to see me. As I headed off to bed the electric blanket was on, I wore bed-socks and brought a hot water bottle with me. It is still supposed to be summer! A Toyboy would be easier, but alas they all run far too fast for me.

My Fire

In winter I like to light a real fire in my living room. With a real fire I never feel alone and the room is very cosy and toasty warm. Over the years I have used coal, turf, logs from George’s parents and my latest idea is to use the Eco Wood Briquettes.

Last winter I managed to get the Eco Wood Briquettes on a few occasions. They are clean, easy to handle, ignite quickly, burn well and the little residue can be used on the garden. No waste, and my feet thaw out! My problem is to find a regular supply.

Does anyone out there know of a company where I can get them on the island of Ireland? Any companies I have located are on the UK Mainland.

Mobile Phones

Modern technology is wonderful WHEN it  works!  If I had a penny for every time I said that, I would be worth mugging!

Now steady on George, go back to work and  relax I said IF!

Elly sent me an email and suggested I blog the content.  The easiest way is just to copy and paste the info so here it is:

Nokia have announced a battery recall for some BL-5C phone batteries manufactured between Dec 2005 and Nov 2006. In very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge.

Since so many people carry Nokia phones, I though it might help to post the link below which provides you details on how to check if your battery comes from the affected batch. Remember to look closely to spot the difference between ‘zeroes’ and the capital letter O – it can be hard to tell. Also think of sending the link on to anyone you know that uses Nokia phones.

Now you know, do what your grannymar tells you, go check!
