I am not a has-been. I am a will be. Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance

What a story! I would have dearly loved to take you dancing in your tails and with me in my formal dinner suit, cummerbund and all. Pity you changed into a girlie dress!

Robert it is good to come across someone else who knows the world of those samples. One of the companies sold Irish Tweed and the samples came as blankets with maybe twenty different patterns on the one piece. I remember the threads being everywhere!

The little books were wonderful for anyone who liked to do patchwork.

Sorry Nancy for confusing you. I suppose I mean I was not dating someone at that time. We had these Guys over working with us for several months from our office in Greenock, Scotland. They had invitations to the function but no ladies to bring along with them. My friend and I paired up with them for the evening. It was a wonderful night of good food, wine, laughter, and fun.

That is a wonderful story. Even more so because I come from a family were a family of drapers.

When you mention the cloth I'm reminded of those "books" of samples that we used to have everywhere.

They were like a book but each leaf was a pattern of what the supplier had to offer. When they became out of date they were much desired between myself and my brother and sister. Or they might be used as patches for the holes on the knees of our jeans or trousers. Pick the one that matches the closest!

I usually understand everything you write despite differences in expressions and spellings. But today, you have stumped me!
What does this mean?
"Make up a party with some chaps on secondment from Scotland"
